It was Spring and our birds had been were exhibiting signs of "Spring Fever". They're restless, moody and "flighty". Sometimes they would cheep for hours on end and were quite aggressive with biting and "attitude".

One day was a particularly bad day for our youngest male bird. He was chasing and biting all the other birds. Finally, we had to isolate him in a separate cage. It's hard to 'discipline' a pet. But he had been this way for several days and was getting worse, and the weather had just started warming up. So we decided it might be better to clip his wings to subdue some of his aggression.

We don't like to clip their wings as....well....they're birds. They're meant to fly. But, at the same time, they fly so well, when they get in their "moods" they fly out of reach and the "attitude" of defiance shows up. They get cocky, disobedient and mean. So, we clipped his wings.

Clipping their feathers is not at all painful. It's like clipping your fingernails. They don't feel a thing. But, obviously, it impacts their flight ability. It's emotionally painful for us to do it as we hated to cut his beautiful feathers and then see him struggle to fly like before.

However, since then, he has calmed down and become very attentive to his mate and very helpful in the "brooding" process. And his feathers will grow back and he will be able to fly high again.

Sometimes, when we revel in the blessings of the Lord, we get lifted up in ourselves and start thinking
how great we are, and what we know and what we can do. We get prideful and trust in our abilities
and not in God....we might even get an "attitude" at God and avoid Him.

He loves us so much and He doesn't want us to harm others with our attitude, so He has to prune us.
Suddenly, we see we can't do all the things we were so proud of and we fall sometimes. It causes us to
withdraw and doubt ourselves. And we realize our dependence on the Lord.

Gradually our wings grow back, and the cycle begins again, but perhaps we learn to depend more on God this time.

I believe His desire is that we be fully free, and blessed and strong in our abilities, but that we never
lose sight of our dependence on Him. He doesn't want to have to prune us.....He wants us to fly free in
Him....with a right heart and attitude....and to bear much fruit for His Kingdom.

John 15:1-5 1 "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 "Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. 3 "You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.4 "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.5 "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
