Housework Through the Ages

One morning I was scrubbing the kitchen and bathroom floors.

I don't like housework so was attempting to teach myself to rejoice in the Lord in all things.

While pondering how grateful I was to have the health to be scrubbing the floor and what a blessing it was to have a floor to wash and running water etc. I began to reflect on stories I've heard from the past. i.e. Of the farmer's wife who scrubbed her wooden floors after pumping the water and hand making the soap, and how I should count my blessings. I also remembered hearing a story of women with dirt floors diligently sweeping to keep them clean.

It was then that I had to laugh at the tales of hardship handed down through the ages. I'm sure they were true, but I wonder if those women disliked housework as much as I do and perhaps the stories that were handed down may have been embellished....just a little.

Anyway, I got the floors washed and enjoyed myself too.

Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!
